July 30, 1924 - March 27, 1945
Robert 'Bert' Samuel Bellis was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bellis of Lancaster, Ontario. He received his wings in April 1944 at Camp Borden and then went overseas in January 1945.
He died while training to become a fighter pilot at 56 OTU on March 27, 1945, flying Typhoon MN532.
As of April 2025, according to Alan Thomson, "his aircraft crashed on Stony Hill, 5 miles north of Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire. The engine and memorial are on display at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, recovered 1982. I visited the crash site in 1981, no photos." For photos, see links below.
